I was listening to a deist arguing about something the other day and it struck me how religious people always seem to claim the "best" parts of the universe as their own and kind of ignore the less attractive bits. I wouldn't want to be pedantic, but don't "gods" (especially the monotheistic ones) have to take responsibility for all of it, if not then where did the nasty parts come from?
It put me in mind of this little ditty - old but amusing..
All things dull and ugly,
All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.
Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom.
He made their horrid wings.
All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.
Each nasty little hornet,
Each poisonous little squid--
Who made the spiky urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!
All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.
