Here's an interesting chart, showing Google searches for the terms "Sun Tanning" and "Skin Whitening" by country over time. As you can see, people with light skin tend to be concerned with how they can make it darker and people with dark skin are concerned with making it lighter. We're such predictable creatures, we always want what we don't have, even when it's bad for us..
