It was our local 2023 May fayre yesterday (Mon) hundreds of small stalls crammed into all the public squares and alleys in the centre of town; nice to see that lot's of people turned out, even though it rained quite heavily in the morning. Anyway, we walked in at roughly 2pm and had a pleasant stroll around all the various vendors, soaking up the fair-ground vibe and sampling some of the more interesting food items on offer (some top-notch veg-samosas!).
Our local brewers Siren and Elusive were also represented and I was happy to see that Siren has some of their new collaboration beer called "Doing Science" on sale, I snapped up a can to try. The beer is a joint effort with Manchester maestros Track and is the first beer in Europe to use the new Strata CGX hops. CGX is a new cryogenic process that extracts the oils and lupulin from hop flowers and concentrates it into small, highly flavoured, pellets that can then be added to beer to impart flavour and bitterness.
The beer was very good indeed, so pungent! Top notes of stone fruits and pineapple and some citrus, dank and weedy (cannabis) with a slight bitterness to the finish and a lovely smooth and silky mouthfeel. I must get some more of these before it sells out which, judging by the reaction to the beer on social media, I'm sure it will pretty quickly!
