Brew world cup

So, every year the craft beer Twitterati hold a little competition called the "Brew World Cup" and much like the American "World Series" it's got nothing to do with the whole world. It's actually about finding the most popular UK brewery that year and, of course, there's nothing wrong with that!

In the picture above you can see the result for 2022, starting with the round of 16 (there were rounds before this) and eventually ending up with the final two, DEYA and Verdant. Votes are cast on Twitter (usually attracting a couple of thousand votes per round) and the winner gets bugger all, except of course the adoration of the fans!

This year the winner was, in my estimation, absolutely the correct choice, my favourite UK brewery Verdant, the Cornish maestros who can't put a foot wrong at the moment and are knocking out some stunning brews. Second was Cheltenham based DEYA who also feature in my own best brewery of 2022 list and have done since the year dot, another excellent producer. My own local brewery Siren were unlucky enough to come up against DEYA in the round of 16 and although they stormed through up to that point, that's as far as they got, still, not bad for a little industrial unit in Finchampstead!
