I came across this little diagram on the interwebs the other day, it's a useful illustration of the kinds of arguments that can be experienced when debating other people or organizations. My own experience (in business) where there are formal power hierarchies (i.e. companies are not democracies) is that most of the action occurs in the bottom four segments, "evidence" it would seem, is still a rare and undervalued commodity in most businesses that I see. In politics this seems to be the case also, although hopefully the pandemic has highlighted to more people to the value of evidence, or at a minimum, highlighted to everyone else the people who simply don't value it and probably never will.
